This ring is a part of my 'This Ancient Love' collection which is inspired by the words of a hymn by Carolyn McDade that speaks of the divine feminine. Here's the first verse:

"Long before the night was born from darkness
Long before the dawn rolled unsteady from fire
Long before she wrapped her scarlet arms around the hills
there was a love
this ancient love was born." - Carolyn McDade

I named the creations in this collection after a specific goddess or an aspect of the divine feminine. This necklace reminds me of an 'RBG' collar, and so I have named this necklace after a goddess of justice.
In Greek mythology, the name ‘Themis’ means justice. As a goddess who was worshiped in Athens, she was the personification of divine or natural law, order, justice and wisdom. She embodied justice by protecting the oppressed.
As the daughter of Gaia, Themis is grounded in the nourishment of the earth.

"Themis is one of the oldest and most revered of the Greek goddesses. The daughter of Gaia, the earth goddess, Themis is the mother of three Fates, who determine the destiny of all mortals and gods. She is the giver of dreams ... and bestower of oracles. Themis is prophesy incarnate: her oracles derive from her sense of order and connection to nature. ... She personified the social order of law and custom, a reminder that social order is ultimately dependent on the natural order of the earth. Themis is a grounded, earthy goddess who is also comfortable moving through the shifting, mantic world of dreams. She is deep wisdom familiar with both the depths of the earth and the heights of sky: a guide into soul." - Michael Babcock

This necklace is hand-fabricated using ancient silversmithing techniques in my home studio in Kitchener, Ontario.

The pendant is handcrafted in sterling silver and 10 karat gold. It measures 3.5cm wide by 3cm long.
The three stones at the base of the pendant are lolite cabochons (indigo in colour). They measure 3mm in diameter and are set in fine silver.

The sterling silver chain measures 19 inches long and closes with my handmade signature hook clasp.
