This necklace is a part of my 'This Ancient Love' collection which is inspired by the words of a hymn by Carolyn McDade that speaks of the divine feminine. Here's the first verse:
"Long before the night was born from darkness
Long before the dawn rolled unsteady from fire
Long before she wrapped her scarlet arms around the hills
there was a love
this ancient love was born." - Carolyn McDade

I named the creations in this collection after a specific goddess or an aspect of the divine feminine. This necklace is named Persephone. She is both Maiden and Queen of the Underworld.

"In the seasons of a woman's life, Persephone represents spring. Just as spring cyclically follows the fallow period after harvest and the barren months of winter, bringing warmth, more light, and new green growth, so can Persephone become reactivated in women after times of loss and depression. Each time Persephone resurfaces in a woman's psyche, it is once again possible for her to be receptive to new influences and change. Persephone is youthfulness, vitality, and the potential for new growth. Women who have Persephone as a part of them may stay receptive to change and young in spirit all their lives."
- Jean Shinoda Bolen, Goddesses in Everywoman.

This necklace is hand-fabricated using ancient silversmithing techniques in my home studio in Kitchener, Ontario.

It features a rose cut teal moss kyanite cabochon.
(Please note that the colour on your screen may vary slightly from the actual colour of the stone.)
The stone is set in 14 karat gold.
10 karat gold was used for the bail and jump rings in the chain.
The remaining details were carefully crafted out of sterling silver.

The pendant with the stone measures 2.6cm long by 1.3cm wide.
The shapes with the stamped leaves are each 2.2cm long by 7mm wide.
The chain is 20 inches long. It is darkened with a patina.
It closes with a handmade hook clasp featuring my maker's stamp.
