The sky is dark this morning.
A storm is coming.
I sat outside to eat breakfast
and watched a robin
stride and stop
across the grass
head tilting down.
She knows what she's looking for.
She has responsibilities -
I saw their little mouths
when I peered in through the branches
of the blue spruce where I saw her
bringing remnants from
other living things now passed.
Is it certainty I want?
A purpose that's clear?
Or is wonder a greater gift
that leaves my days enchanted?
The iris have bloomed
I've been patient with my longing.
I'll listen to yours too
if it's too much for you to hold alone.
- Robin McGauley
This necklace features a luscious purple amethyst rose cut cabochon set in fine silver and sterling silver. It measures 1.7cm wide and 2.2cm long.
A hand fabricated Iris made in sterling silver emerges from one side of the hinge component that acts as a bail. A tiny sculptural element.
The chain is completely handmade out of sterling silver. I created each link and soldered them all shut.
There are 3 links that join the pendant to the chain that are 10 karat gold.
The chain is 18.5 inches long.
The silver on this necklace is darkened with a patina - which gives it an edgy, bold and, yet, elegant feel.
