As I was making the first few creations in this iris series a memory surface of the poetry that I used to write as a teenager. I vaguely remembered a poem about irises and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I emerged from my basement studio and climbed the three flights of stairs to the attic. Pulling out box after box from the crawl space I finally found the box marked 'Old Journals'. And, there it was, the journal that holds the poetry that I wrote more than 20 years ago.
Here is the last verse of the poem titled 'Inspiring':
Mesmerized by it swaying Nothing noticed but this creation I take it in and flow it out; An iris for inspiration.
May this necklace remind you to be inspired by the beauty that surrounds you.
This necklace started with a sketch that I drew of an iris which I then cut out of sterling silver.
The pendant measures 3cm x 1.5cm. Dangling from the chain is a 5mm round Chalcedony cabochon.
The chain is 20 inches long and closes with a handmade hook clasps.
