It's astounding how an acorn,
something already so complete,
has the potential to break open
and become something more.
It makes me wonder
what beautiful part of you
is still waiting to grow?
- Robin McGauley
This necklace is fully handcrafted out of quality sterling silver.
I used metalsmithing fabrication techniques to create the acorn. It is a hollow form creation.
The chain is also handmade. It is 17.5 inches long and closes with a hook clasp.
This necklace has three larger jump rings at the end of the chain. I added these intentionally as a symbol of commitment to reconciliation. The three links represent the 'silver covenant chain' that was a treaty between indigenous people, especially the Haudenosaunee, and early settlers to Turtle Island to foster friendship, respect and peace between them. The covenant was created in silver because it tarnishes if you don't tend to it. It was a visible reminder that friendship, respect and peace needs to be nurtured with care.
